On watching the performance of Eve Ensler’s  The Vagina Monologues , Gloria Steinem’s  initial reaction  was, “I already know this: it’s the journey of truth-telling we’ve been on for the past three decades”. My initial reaction on seeing the performative reading  Hum Khawateen  (We, Women) by a theatre group called Raschakra was in total contrast to Steinem’s response. I asked myself, “Why did I not know about this? How could such silence shroud the existence of these writings for over a century?” Hum Khawateen  is a reading of a selection of articles from Urdu women’s magazines published in India about a century ago. These magazines were serendipitously discovered by a team of researchers from the feminist group Nirantar who were working on issues related to Muslim women’s education. Nirantar  also published  a compilation of Devnagri transliterations of these writings called  Kalaam-e-Niswan  (Women’s Words) . Few texts got a dusting when four women staged dramatised reading of 100-year-old women's risalas (magazines) in Urdu, at India International Centre, New Delhi. The readings of Hum Khawatein (We, the women) removed the dust of bias and ignorance from the now marginalised voices — of Urdu and Muslim women — and their writings on issues ranging from political, social and international relations to fashion and tradition. These voices sounded participative — neither isolated nor ghettoised — shattering the stereotypes constructed around the post-independence Muslim women; burqa-clad, obedient, religious hypocrites, controlled by the diktat of the Shariya and Hadith.  When self-appointed guardians of Indian culture are daring to threaten the use of Urdu script in street art — right in the national capital — such events acquire greater significance. 29 अप्रैल 2018 को रसचक्र की उन्नीसवीं बैठकी संपन्न हुई। इस बैठकी में शिरकत करने वाले लोगों की तादाद 19 रही। बैठकी में गद्यात्मक और पद्यात्मक रचनाओं का पाठ किया गया। पद्यात्मक रचनाओं में हिंदी उर्दू और अंग्रेज़ी के कवियों को पढ़ा गया। हिंदी के कवियों की पढ़ी जाने वाली रचनाएँ इस तरह हैं - 'हमें आज़ादी मिल गई है - बलराज साहनी', 'चाँद का मुँह टेढ़ा है - मुक्तिबोध', 'वित्त मंत्री के साथ नाश्ते की मेज़ पर एक तस्वीर - अरुण कमल', 'सीढ़ियों पर दोनों जगह - अशोक वाजपेयी', 'कुएँ में कोई गिर गया है - विजयदेव नारायण साही' । उर्दू के शायरों में 'हम देखेंगे - फ़ैज़ अहमद फ़ैज़', और मजाज़ लखनवी का 'सरमायदारी' रसिकों के बीच पढ़ा गया। अंग्रेज़ी से wislawa szymborska की कविता 'children of our age' पढ़कर सुनाई गई। पद्यात्मक रचनाओं में भी भाषा की विविधता देखने के लिए मिली।  नवनीता देवसेन की पुस्तक 'सीता से शुरू' से एक अंश पढ़ा गया। यख अंश सीता को हनुमान द्वारा छुड़ा कर लाने की कथा पर आधारित था। कथा में नवीनता और नाटकीयता के चलते रसिकों द्वारा काफी

 

  8 अक्टूबर,2018 को हर क़तरा तूफ़ान की प्रस्तुति राजीव गाँधी फाउंडेशन, दिल्ली द्वारा आयोजित की गई थी।
